Chris Gomberg is a California licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). Chris obtained his Master’s in Education/Counseling and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont and has been in the work/life employee assistance field for nearly 40 years. Chris has provided Employee Assistance Program (EAP) consulting services for several Fortune 500 companies including 3M, Mattel and Health Net and worked at Cedars-Sinai’s Work and Life Matters/EAP both as Director of the EAP and as a Work/Life Specialist, providing direct client services. Chris is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management and is licensed by the Institute of HeartMath® as a Coach and Certified Trainer in stress reduction. Chris is currently in the process of completing his course work to obtain his “Certified Professional Retirement Coach” designation.
As an EAP Counselor, Chris has worked with thousands of employees and their family members when they have sought professional help with work, family or personal concerns. Several years ago, Chris turned his attention to developing a coaching program in the EAP to help employees with concerns about their retirement transition.
In the process of developing the pre-retirement coaching program, Chris realized he had a real passion for coaching and assisting people who wanted to enhance their retirement planning. He found that pre-retirement coaching clients were open to the possibilities of their retirement plan and the positivity and excitement of their life ahead. He saw that, as clients were also able to establish their financial plan, they could and would be open to their possibilities and unthought-of hopes for an exciting life in their next chapter, including their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. It is, after all, more than just about the money! It has been a tremendously engaging and rewarding process for both the client as well as for Chris.
Over the years Chris has had several career opportunities to develop his expertise. He has been active in several professional organizations. Chris was a member of the California Medical Board Physician Evaluation Committee, and served as Chapter President of the San Fernando Valley Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA). Previous to his EAP career, Chris worked in a variety of research and clinical settings including the University of Vermont, UCLA and Kaiser Permanente. He has presented at local and national conferences as well as many workshops on such topics as Personal and Work Change Management, Balancing a Personal and Professional Life, Positive Psychology, Stress Management and Building Resiliency and Retirement Transition.
As Chris has begun his own retirement transition process, he is looking forward to being of service in his own next chapter through his retirement coaching practice.
